i recently started reading william zinsser’s on writing well, and the last chapter i read was on unity. normally, when i write, i have a tendency to mix “i,” “you,” and “we” liberally. a point that zinsser’s was making that i thought made a lot of sense if that using so many forms can confuse the readers.
with that in mind, i incorporated a lot of those ideas in my latest psychology today piece, “combating the stigma of depression”. ( Read more )

What four-letter word can be the most difficult to say?
Help.
Living in a society that prides itself on self-sufficiency, the idea of asking for help can often be daunting. You mean admit that I can’t handle everything that comes my way? Not a chance! The ability, though, to ask for help can sometimes be life saving and the inability to do so can lead to many unnecessary consequences.
