eating disorders & vegetarianism – breaking down the responses
writing this eating disorder/ vegetarian piece has been a long time coming. my plan was to write it a long time ago, but every time i started, i’d receive another response from someone and i wanted to make sure this piece reflected as many people’s experiences as possible. even after writing my last psychology today piece on this subject, i received more responses. finally, i’ve gotten to the point where i said i need to write it, more responses or not.
first of all, i want to thank everyone who responded. people openly shared their experiences and insight. some people shared very personal things (such as becoming vegetarian after specific traumatic events or other events that have caused their guilt to flare). one thing that was very important to me was to keep people’s confidence and unless people specifically gave me permission to share about them, i’m going to keep it.
one thing i wanted to show through these three pieces is that, while i believe and have found with many others that there is some connection between eating disorders and vegetarianism, it is complicated. ( Read more )

“ode to my recovery dog”
today is my dog’s 10th birthday (happy birthday shaka)! naturally, i had to pen a piece for him. here is my latest psychology today piece titled “ode to my recovery dog”. it contains pictures of my ridiculously cute canine. i probably have more pictures of him than anyone needs to have of a dog, so i limited myself to four pictures. i’m in a couple of them with hairstyles quite different to my current style. but, if you’ve read my huffington post piece “good hair wars”, you wouldn’t be surprised. ![]()
