do i need to say it again?
reverse racism. does not. exit.
there is racism. period. only racism. anyone can be racist against another person. anyone can be the subject of racism. if a black person is racist (which is often implied when people bring up ‘reverse racism’), it is racism. ( Read more )

exponential hate (pt. 2)
so, i’ve thought about my last post, “exponential hate”, and i realized that there was a lot of anger emanating from that piece, much more than i’d like. i can’t say that i particularly mind being angry, but i’m not thrilled with the amount i was expressing, nor with the fact that a lot of my anger seemed to be my reaction to others’ vitriol, hate and anger. exponential hate
has it seemed that the level of hatred in the u.s. has significantly expounded? i’ve been pondering that. i’ve been vacillating between whether i’m feeling increasingly paranoid or whether these feelings and instincts are justified. for instance, there have been reports that there is 244% increase in militia groups in this country. that is insane. i get it – some white people are freaking out about having a black president. their idea about what “their america” is feels threatened (gotta love when immigrants have the nerve to be indignant about “their country” changing. fear leads to stupidity. i understand that. still… ( Read more )

so i’ve heard the recent report that 48% of black females have herpes. at first, i didn’t pay it much mind. another stat to basically show that black females aren’t taking care of themselves. over it, i thought. but after hearing more about it and reading others’ commentary, i’ve considered it a little more.

my piece in essence!
okay, technically it’s on essence(.com), but that’s apples and oranges. speaking of food, that’s what my piece is about:
Commentary: ‘Black People Don’t Have Eating Disorders’
Is there a connection between Black History Month and National Eating Disorders Awareness Week? For me, there is. I am Black and have spent years struggling with disordered eating. Let me share my process of accepting these two areas of my life.

derrion albert

i haven’t written about this here, but it’s not because i’ve not been thinking about it. i’ve thought about it every day since i heard about it. it deeply pains me.
the worst part is that things like this happen often. rarely is it caught on tape and broadcast on the news, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
