real housewives of dc

this probably won’t be my last time writing about real housewives of dc, but i want to write right now.

i went to college at howard university (same as stacie turner), lived in washington dc for about four and a half years, and my experiences in dc were nothing like the rhodc women.

that said, i can’t help but watch every episode of this boring show and every time i do, i want to jet over to dc. man, i thought i missed it but now, i miss it even more.

suicide

here we go.

when i told my mom about my three-piece psychology today feature on depression and suicide and mentioned that i’d written that i never tried to commit suicide, she said, “you told me you’d tried to commit suicide.” did i? i don’t know. i don’t think i did, but might i have said that? possibly.

you see, when i was about twelve or so, one day i was feeling particularly depressed. ( Read more )

need your help: eating disorders & vegetarianism

i’m working on a 3-piece feature on eating disorders and vegetarianism. vegetarians – don’t worry! i’m not knocking vegetarianism, but sharing my experiences and talking about some of the correlations that i’ve found with both myself and many others i’ve known.

however, i would like to have more anecdotes that just those of people i know and i know all of you can teach me something as well. ( Read more )

broken over 3 strikes case

a homeless man, gregory taylor, stole food from a catholic soup kitchen. it was his third (non-violent) offense, but under California’s “3 strikes and you’re out” rule, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.  He served thirteen.  He is going to be released in a matter of days.  His case is a travesty and disgusting.

“nbc, enough with the diet shows”

it’s my latest piece on huffington post:

nbc diet shows

i feel a little bad railing on nbc in this piece because it’s probably my favorite network out of the major stations.  nonetheless, their influx of diet shows is not cool, and i finally felt i needed to publicly write about it.  right now, it’s featured on the media section’s homepage.

barbaric facelifts

harnesswhen i first saw this vintage ad, i thought, how barbaric.  then i thought, wait, is it that much different than botox? i mean, both are to help smooth wrinkles and lift skin.  sure, this item looks much worse but at least people only wear it at night. with botox, people have to keep getting shots in their face to maintain the look.botox shots
