one day when i was at remuda, i picked a flower so i could press it. i happened to have a hardbound copy of election at remuda (i wonder how i was allowed to have it). i’ve known since then what book i’d pressed the flower in, but can you believe that i’ve never opened it since i placed it in there? over nine years. yeah.
so this morning i was at my parents’ house, which is where i had election. finally, after trying to get myself to open it for a while, i fi-nally pulled it out. it was easy to know which pages it was located between because there was a larger space between those pages. i opened it. here was the flower: ( Read more )

mackenzie phillips
i’ve paid attention to this story about mackenzie phillips and her revelations on the oprah winfrey show. i’m thinking of buying her new book, high on arrival, but i might need to hold off for awhile.
before i get to the present, let me go back a little bit. ( Read more )

polanski’s escape
“‘I’m sure if he could go back, he wouldn’t do it again.’”
aren’t those the words many of us could use in our lives at some time? how many of us wouldn’t go back and do something different again?
so who am i quoting with the above quote? samantha geimer (nee’ gailey) who, when 13, was raped by 42-year old roman polanski. geimer’s quote continued, “he made a terrible mistake but he’s paid for it”.
has he?

enabling the disgraced
i just happened to a rerun of the latest episode of ‘real time w/ bill maher‘ and who was one of the guests? good ole new york a.g.
i thought i was bothered by these disgraced politicians who so desperately try to pop back into public view. elliot spitzer has been doing his expert tour, running around to every show that will have him to talk about his thoughts regarding the financial crisis. the hosts are interestingly not asking him about the crisis in his pants.
then, of course, was the news that john edwards was looking to get back into public service. that seems to be halted for the moment by the latest revelations of baby mama drama.
“the hammer” showed his skills on dancing with the stars. i couldn’t even watch his performance; just the clips made me want to find a hammer and nails and lock him in a closet.
to top it off, i saw a headline last week about foley – you know, the congressional page predator – giving an interview.

hofstra not-rapee’s identity
call me bitter. perhaps i am. last week, i saw a quad block of mug shots of four men of color, charging them with raping a student from hofstra university. they hadn’t even been charged, and yet their pictures were plastered online (and probably in the newspaper).
now, the female has said that whadd’ya know? it was consensual sex. the men have been freed from prison.
still, most news sources i have found have not released her name. it took some digging for me to find it (btw, it’s danmell ndonye). her picture? not even close. in fact, when i typed in her name, i got pictures of the four guys.
so, why am i putting her out? because there are too many people charged with rape – and other crimes – which they didn’t commit. also, there are too many people who are raped or had other crimes against them who get a bad rap by people who make up crimes that don’t happen.
so, my thought: make her more public than the four men have been presented. maybe it will discourage other people from crying wolf.

fashion week
so, it’s fashion week for designers’ spring 2010 collections, and i am reminded why i don’t look at fashion week. i fully admit, i really like clothing and clothes shopping. i’ve worked at two different clothing stores and those were good times.
that being said, oh my. i can’t see half of the clothing because i’m immediately struck by the dangerously thin women. some people can look at most of these models and not be bothered. so why does it bother me?
i was in an eating disorder facility. in fact, i was in more than one eating disorder facility. i have seen girls who were starving and barfing to death. i know what girls with eating disorders look like. i’m not talking about thin women; i know plenty of thin people who are healthy. i’m talking about people with blaring eating disorders. and so many of these females look like that.
it’s scary and very disturbing.

(b)obama tears
ok, there’s a lot of… negativity steeping in the air right now and it can be easy to feel upset (see racism post). that being said, i saw these pictures and wanted to cry. is it the obama girls? bo? the anticipation of seeing POTUS? all of them? doesn’t matter. good tears because it’s too cute.

you can find all of the pictures on obama_daily.

the racism issue
race comes up. it does. it’s one of those things that when i usually hear about it, it sours with a negative connotation. sometimes race just… happens. it can be almost inevitable.
that said, i find the topic of race tiresome. it’s been such a more prevalent topic in our society since POTUS became, well… POTUS.
